Service Overview
Plant Hire & Operators —
The Brief, In Plain English.
What It Is
Plant hire with operator means you book a machine — typically a 1.5t to 13t excavator, a tracked or wheeled dumper, a telehandler — and a time-served operator together. You pay one rate, you get one accountable person on site, no operator-supplied-by-someone-else confusion.
Who It's For
Self-builders running their own groundworks who don't have machine tickets; main contractors needing a reliable sub-package; landscape gardeners needing dig support; homeowners with a one-off groundworks job (drainage, pond, patio dig, garage base, stump removal).
When You Need It
Book ahead — 2–4 weeks lead time in summer, shorter in winter. For emergency works (collapsed drains, fallen trees on access routes) we'll prioritise where we can.
Why It Matters
Plant hire alone, without an operator, becomes your liability the moment you start the engine. Hiring an operator separately leaves you holding two contracts and no single point of accountability. Direct hire with our operators means one phone number, one invoice, one accountable team.
What Happens If You Wait
The Cost Of
Doing Nothing.
Bad plant decisions cost more than the hire itself.
Risks Of Ignoring It
- →Wrong machine size — too big to access, too small to do the job efficiently. Pay twice.
- →Operator without the right ticket — site refuses entry, day lost.
- →Uninsured operator — your liability if something gets damaged or someone gets hurt.
- →Self-operated hire with no ticket — invalidates the hire company's insurance, exposes you personally.
- →No prior survey — services struck, gas / water / electric hit, emergency response bill.
Common Mistakes Customers Make
- ×Booking a 5t when a 1.5t would access the garden gate.
- ×Skipping the CAT scan before digging.
- ×Hiring without confirming what bucket / breaker is included.
- ×Not allowing for muck-away — spoil on the drive for weeks.

Why It's Worth It
What You
Actually Get.
Right Machine, First Time
We size the machine to the access, not the other way round. No 'we'll make it fit'.
Carded Operators
CPCS and CSCS-carded operators with the relevant 360, dumper and telehandler tickets — site-ready paperwork.
One Invoice, One Account
Machine, operator, fuel, muck-away — all on one fixed quote and one invoice. No three-way reconciliation.
Full Insurance Cover
Public liability and employers' liability cover (£1m / £10m) — your project is protected, not exposed.
Coordinated With Our Build Work
If we're already doing your groundworks or extension, plant slots straight into the programme — no separate booking dance.

Tight-access machines for garden work, patios, drainage runs, narrow side returns and rear-garden access through standard 900mm side gates. Tracked rubber for lawn protection.
Midi & Full-Size Excavators (5t – 13t)
Foundations, bulk dig, extension footings, stripping out concrete bases, large drainage installations and site clearance. Quick-hitch for fast attachment swaps.
Dumpers & Telehandlers
Tracked and wheeled dumpers for muck movement on tight sites, telehandlers for material handling on extension and new-build projects. Operator included.
Attachments
Standard ditching, grading and toothed buckets, breakers for concrete and stubborn rock, augers for fence posts and helical piles, grapples for clearance. Confirmed at quote stage.
Operated vs Non-Operated
We operate everything we hire out — that's deliberate. It keeps insurance valid, the site safe and the work productive. We don't supply bare machines for self-operation.

Ask Yours
How much does plant hire with operator cost?
+
Day rates depend on machine size, attachments and operator skill level. We quote in writing per day or per job after confirming the brief.
Do I need to provide insurance?
+
No — we carry full operator and machine insurance. You don't need separate cover for the plant or operator while we're on your site.
What tickets do your operators hold?
+
CPCS or NPORS cards for excavator (360 below 10t and above 10t), dumper and telehandler depending on the operator. CSCS for general site access. Cards available on request.
Can you do CAT and Genny services scanning?
+
Yes — pre-dig services scan with CAT scanner and signal generator, marked out on site before any ground is broken. Essential on any job near utilities.
Do you supply muck-away?
+
Yes — tipped to a registered waste site with the waste transfer paperwork. We can either include this in the job price or charge per load.
How much access do you need?
+
Mini excavators fit through standard 900mm gates; midi machines need around 2m clear access; full-size machines need vehicle-width access. We'll size the machine to your access at quote stage.
Can I book the operator without the machine?
+
We supply operator-and-machine packages, not bare operators. It keeps insurance and accountability clean.
How far ahead do I need to book?
+
2–4 weeks in summer is sensible. Winter and emergency work we can often turn around faster — phone and we'll tell you straight.
